On Board Your Yacht

WATER SPORTS

One of the great pleasures of chartering is to use, or learn to use, the increasing variety of water sports equipment carried by most yachts. We want you to do this with maximum enjoyment but also with maximum safety for you and those around you.

Of particular note are the jetskis (the kneeling or standing machines) and waverunners (the sit-down variety). Please take great care; do not drive close inshore especially near swimming beaches or other anchored yachts – it can be very annoying, not to say dangerous. Many countries have brought in severe restrictions on their use and some have banned them altogether. Please follow your Captain's instructions.

Please note that, although we try to be as accurate as possible when compiling the equipment lists on each yacht, they are all subject to change during the year.

SCUBA DIVING

As with water sports, so for scuba diving, safety is paramount. Of the many yachts that carry scuba equipment many do impose restrictions on its use. Generally you will require at least a Professional Association of Diving Instructors Open Water Certificate or equivalent and be asked to sign individual waivers, usually the PADI waiver.

In order to ensure you are not disappointed, please check with us first so that we can tell you what is available on each yacht. There are also some regions where diving is seriously restricted, such as Greece and Turkey, and all local regulations should be strictly adhered to. Remember, scuba diving, although wonderful, is dangerous. Please follow all safety rules and also ensure you are covered for this activity under your own personal insurance. You will generally not be covered under the yacht's insurance.

SMOKING

For safety reasons, notably the prevention of fire, smoking is only permitted on the open deck areas and not inside the yacht. A few yachts have even gone beyond this and do not permit any smoking. Please check with us for individual restrictions.

DRUGS AND WEAPONS

Quite obviously both drugs and weapons are illegal, and possession will result in the charter being terminated immediately, without refund or recourse.
As you would expect, this policy is rigidly enforced.

GRATUITIES

We are often asked what gratuities should be given to the crew. It is the general European understanding that gratuities are a discretionary payment reflecting the service you have received. It is worth remembering that crew often work far longer hours than you may imagine (although you might be the last to go to sleep, the crew have to be on duty before the first guest wakes!) and that some of the crew may be working virtually unseen in the Engine Room or the Laundry. Crew do expect a gratuity and the best guidance we can offer is that a sum equivalent to 10% of the Charter Fee is considered fair. However, if you really had a fantastic time, do not feel restricted by this!
